MURAL
Panda’s Saviour
Chengdu, China · June–July 2025 · 6 × 4 m
Panda’s Survivor was painted by Heimler & Proc in 2025 during their three-week artist residency at the Tianyi Nongyuan Art Expo Park in Chengdu, China.
The striking mural commemorates the dedicated work of Chinese scientists who rescued the giant panda from extinction. The central figure, dressed in the same distinctive attire as the Wall Jumper of Berlin and the Mover of Wellington, sits confidently upon the famous Tiger Eyes Bridge.
Behind him rises Chengdu’s dramatic urban skyline, blending modern skyscrapers with traditional architecture against a vivid orange sky. At the base, large hibiscus flowers — the floral emblem of Chengdu — frame the composition, anchoring the artwork firmly in its local identity and celebrating both scientific achievement and cultural pride.
The mural grew from Heimler & Proc’s experience of Chengdu during their residency, which included encounters with Sichuan opera, traditional music, Gaiwan tea culture and exchanges with local artists.
