Róka-lugas

Kölesd, Hungary · September 2024

Painted by Heimler & Proc in Kölesd, Hungary, in 2024, Fox Arbor was created in close collaboration with local residents.

The mural recounts the legend of the fox statue and commemorates the Ottoman deportation of the town’s inhabitants. The composition depicts the landscape where the fox-shaped sculpture was later discovered, its interior concealing small crosses, wedding rings and other precious objects that villagers had hidden for safekeeping.

Silhouetted figures and a star-lit red sky evoke the turbulent history of the region. Heimler & Proc dedicated the work to all the people of Kölesd who endured deportation across the province’s long and troubled past.
