MURAL
The Shadow of the Wall
Art Hotel Luise, Berlin, Germany · 2009
Designed for the Art Hotel Luise in Berlin in 2009, this site-specific mural traces the former course of the Berlin Wall as it once ran through the landscape now visible from the room, cutting across what has become the city’s government quarter.
Serving as a quiet historical clarification of the site, the work incorporates Heimler’s own iconic Wall Jumper figure, here perched on the painted barrier in a moment of suspended motion. Floating straw boaters with pink ribbons drift through the space, introducing a note of magic realism that softens the political weight of the subject and evokes the freedom of the wind. The result is both memorial and poetic: a personal, luminous meditation on division, memory and release within the intimate setting of the hotel room.
