Tribute to Lempicka – Queen of Art Deco, 2025

The series is Heimler & Proc’s homage to Tamara de Lempicka, whose distinctive synthesis of Art Deco, refined Cubism and Neoclassical influences continues to resonate with their own artistic practice. Fascinated not only by her highly individual visual language but also by the evolution of her career and artistic identity, the artists recognise in Lempicka’s journey a parallel to their own continual development and reinvention.

Rather than simply replicating her aesthetic, Heimler & Proc enter into a dialogue with Lempicka’s legacy, translating elements of her stylised forms, sculptural figures and sophisticated geometries through their own contemporary vision. The resulting works become both tribute and reinterpretation, positioning Lempicka’s influence within a distinctly New Zealand context.

As a significant architectural backdrop, the Art Deco buildings of Napier provide the series with a powerful sense of place. Their geometric façades, streamlined forms and ornamental details create a compelling meeting point between Lempicka’s artistic world and the architectural heritage of New Zealand.
