Berlin Paintings
After studying fine arts in Paris and taking part in group exhibitions at the Grand Palais, Gabriel Heimler settled in Berlin in 1988. His early work displayed a distinctive, rather sombre style. In 1989, he painted his celebrated Wall Jumper on the Berlin Wall, an image that became an icon of the city. Thereafter, his palette and compositions grew progressively clearer and more luminous.
Primarily represented in Berlin by the Ladengalerie, one of the city’s major galleries, where several of his paintings remain available today, Heimler’s art centres on literary themes, the modern metropolis and recurring motifs such as baths.
Over the years, his painting has evolved in an increasingly Beckmannian direction, marked by bold forms, expressive figures and a dense, narrative intensity.
